
Dr. Garlitz's practice was established in Hickory in 1972 to provide the highest quality orthodontic care possible for people of all ages, based on each individual’s wants and needs.
Dr. Garlitz's educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Science degree form the University of Notre Dame in 1962
- Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree in Dentistry from the University of Maryland in 1966.
- Internship in Oral Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore in 1967
- Master of Dental Science degree in Orthodontics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972.
- Served two years in the U.S. Air Force as an Oral Surgeon from 1967 to 1969.
- Keeps current with the rapid changes that continually occur in dentistry and orthodontics by attending and participating in an average of 20 days of continuing education courses and seminars each year.
Dr. Garlitz's professional associations include:
- North Carolina Association of Orthodontists
- Southern Association of Orthodontists
- American Association of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
- North Carolina Dental Society
- Western Piedmont Dental Society
- Catawba County Dental Society.
- Served as a Director on the Board of the Southern Association of Orthodontists for eight years as well as the President in 2000-2001.
- Served as treasurer, secretary, and president of the North Carolina Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Garlitz and his wife, Barbara, and have five children including a daughter, Jennifer, and four sons: Kevin, Kyle, Cristopher, and Todd as well as two Labrador retrievers, Ben and Quincey.
Dr. Garlitz's interests other than dentistry and family have included community service organizations, coaching boy’s basketball teams at the recreation and AAU levels, and all sports, especially basketball and golf.
